Designated paths , designated parks

If we would create a system of designated paths throughout Fairmount Park and throughout the individual smaller parks in the city, providing space for all types of park users, it could work in this way: on horse trails, horses would have right-of-way, dogs would be on leash, bikers would travel no faster than a person can walk, joggers, hikers and birders would expect to see horses and riders. On bike-designated trails, bikers would have the freedom to ride at the fast pace they seem to prefer, dogs would be on leash, hikers, joggers, horseback riders and birders would know to beware of speeding bikes. On dog-friendly trails, hikers, joggers, bikers, birders and horseback-riders would know to expect to find well-mannered dogs off leash but still under owner control, bikers would again be asked to ride no faster than a person can walk. Self-policing then becomes a simple re-directing of the user to the paths which allows him to pursue his particular mode of travel safely, rather than the angry altercations which sometimes mar our lovely woods. It's admittedly more complicated to set this up, but how much more delightful for each of us to use the park safely and freely. We could color-code dots on trails: red could be the biker colors, blue for horses, dogs could get a green dot, etc. Smaller parks could have a dog-free zone where any dogs must be on leash no longer than 6 feet, and a dog-use zone where dog owners maintain control of their dogs as they best see fit. It just seems such a win-win system this way; why don't we try it?

Open space- beautiful!

I'd really like to see the vacant lots transformed into community gardens. They really help the look of a street and a neighborhood, as well as build community ties among residents and volunteers.

Also, I'd like to see more flower plantings along major street (ie. Germantown Avenue, etc.), such as you see along Broad Street, south of City Hall. This is an easy way to improve the look of a street, and make an area look more pedestrian friendly. More pedestrians, equals less crime.
